Dutch journalists ask : Does Bosnia and Herzegovina really exist? |
| 30. septembar 2011. | |
SARAJEVO - Two Dutch journalists start travelling Bosnia and Herzegovina on the 3th of october to find out: what is this country, almost 20 years after the beginning of the war? Who are the inhabitents and how do they think about their country and their life in it?One of the two journalist is living in Sarajevo. He works as a correspondent for different media in Belgium and The Netherlands. According to him it's time for making up the balace, to collect new stories and images of this young country.
About the project The young Republic Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) celebrates its 20th birtday on the 3rd of march 2012. It's not just a happy birthday, in 1992 the (re)birth also was the start of a bloody war in the heart of the Balkans. More than 100.000 people died. Sarajevo is still a capital with open wounds. Srebrenica is still looking for its deaths. But that was then. Now it's 20 years later. In 'About Blood and Honey' (working title) we will collect stories and images of this young country, that still struggles with its ancient and recent past. We will travel through the different parts of BiH between october and december 2011 to meet the inhabitants: the Bosnians. But who are these Bosnians? Serbians and Croats exist. And the Bosnian muslims are now called Bosniaks. But Bosnians? Do they exist? And what about Herzegovinians? Now, 20 years later it's important to tell the people's story. To find the modern image of a country we still associate with grief and death. And to investigate: is there a peaceful future for this still-devided country, or is it slowly getting ready for the next war? Telling Stories There are different ways to tell the story of BiH 2012. At the moment we are talking with a Dutch publicing house about this project. They are enthousiastic about the idea and possibly will publish the book About Blood and Honey in spring 2012. Besides this great opportunity there are many other options. We will record a lot of video material to make short movies on the road. We will put it online of course. And use it later to make a feature documentary, to be premiered in the summer of 2012. We are talking about this with a Dutch filmproducer too. But first, we've got to get on the road. Crowdfunding These stories must be told. And waiting for the 'green light' of publishers and producers takes too much time. We can't afford to wait. Spring 2012 is right around the corner. So that's why we decided to collect money through crowd funding. So people pay us because they think it's important. We need money to start up this project, to get on the road and start collecting. So we can convince the publisher and the producer with our material.
HERE you can watch our teaser and fund.
